Sunday, the Punjabi musician Sidhu Moosewala was shot and killed in Mansa hamlet, while two others were injured. After being shot by unidentified gunmen, Moosewala was brought to a nearby hospital in a severe condition. The event occurred in the Manasa district village of Jawaharke.
The event occurred one day after the Punjabi government revoked its security protection. According to the authorities, Moosewala sustained gunshot wounds.
The singer, whose name is Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, joined the Congress in December 2021 and unsuccessfully ran as a candidate from his home district of Mansa in the Punjab assembly elections. According to the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab, Moosewala’s music promotes drug use and gun violence. Several cases have been filed against the singer for promoting weapons in his videos.
During the initial phase of the coronavirus pandemic, Moosewala sparked controversy when he was spotted firing a rifle at a Punjab police shooting range. After a public health program, he was accompanied by police because he was a participant in the state government’s campaign against Covid-19 at the time.
A concert featuring Moosewala was canceled at the Panjab University in Chandigarh following student protests over the alleged glorification of misogynistic culture and firearms in his songs.
Opposition parties reacted strongly and blamed the Punjab government led by Bhagwant Mann for the singer’s tragic death. Opposition leaders blame Mann for withdrawing his security and then posting the withdrawal order on social media.
Sidhu Moose Wala Death
Sidhu Moosewala, a singer-turned-actor-turned-politician, was shot dead by criminals outside his home village in the Mansa region of Punjab less than 24 hours after the Punjab government revoked his protection, according to police. He was 29 years of age.
The musician and his two companions were travelling in his vehicle when the shooters opened fire on them. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Moosewala, a resident of the Moosa village, made his electoral debut as a Congress candidate from Mansa in the February 2022 Assembly elections, leaving behind his renowned status as a leading Punjabi rap musician with worldwide admirers.
During his campaign, Moosewala, who was frequently on the wrong side of the law yet broke multiple records, did not mind performing couplets from his songs and posing for innumerable pictures with most first-time voters.
According to his nomination form, the singer-turned-politician had assets worth Rs 7.87 crore and faced four criminal charges, including two for obscene scenes.
Moosewala was not new to controversy. He caused controversy by reportedly appropriating the name of 18th-century Sikh fighter Mai Bhago in his song “Jatti Jeonay Morh Di Bandook Wargi”; panthic organizations demanded his imprisonment for offending Sikh sensibilities. Later, he apologized.
On December 3, 2021, Moosewala, accused of inciting violence and gun culture in his song “Sanju,” entered Congress.
Moosewala, who carved out a space for himself with his distinctive rapping technique, was recognized for several successful songs, including “Legend,” “Devil,” “Just Listen,” and “Jatt da Muqabala,” and “Hathyar.”
He portrayed the main character in the Punjabi film Moosa Jatt. Yes, I Am A Student, his second film, shed light on the hardships of international students and inspired them not to lose hope.
His tracks frequently appeared on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 list. “I am not pursuing a career in politics for prestige or adulation. I wish to join the system to alter it. I am joining the Congress to amplify the people’s voice. I’m joining the Congress because the party’s leaders are from regular families,” Moosewala, who arrived in Canada as an international student in 2016, stated on the day he entered politics.
