1. It’s Not Incas’s Lost City:
Hiram Bingham the 3rd, the explorer, first discovered Machu Picchu in the year 1911. And, he explored this city, by mistaking it for Vilcabamba, Incas’s lost city. He strongly believed at that time that Vilcabamba is none other than Machu Picchu. He thought, the Incas had fled to the city of Machu Picchu after the Spanish arrival in 1532, which according to him was Vilcabamba. However, later his theory was shown wrong by Gene Savoy, who found out the actual lost city in 1964, whose name was Espiritu Pampa.
2. The Incas Always Wanted to Hide the Secret from Everyone. They Never Wished to Reveal the Secret:
The Spanish people intended to loot & plunder Machu Picchu. That the Incans knew very well. So, in order to protect Machu Picchu from probable plunder, they burned the town’s surrounding forest with the expectation that the regrowth may hush up the access paths. And, the truth is that the Spanish people became unable to uncover the town. Also, the place was anonymous to the strangers, until 1911, when Bingham visited there. Though it was a popular belief that the town was forsaken by the Incas, 3 families were the inhabitants of the city at the time it was uncovered. This led to the beliefs of some people that it was never entirely forgotten.
3. Machu Picchu Was Erected to Withstand the Earthquakes of The Place:
The Incas were the genius & they carefully formulated the buildings so that they can withstand the frequently occurring earthquakes. Otherwise, the frequent earthquakes could clatter the town set on the lid of 2 fault lines. Without any use of mortar in the buildings, the ancient engineering technique, Ashley masonry, was used to build the buildings. Using this technique, the rocks were cut and placed together perfectly without the requirement of any mortar. At the time of heavy earthquakes, the stones of these buildings used to dance in place and then set back into their actual spot, as soon as the vibrations stop.
4. Sixty Percent of Machu Picchu’s Infrastructure Is in Underground:
Other than its remarkable & glorious successes from the point of view of engineering, another thing about this place is also worth watching. The underground infrastructure of this place that comprises 60 percent of the total town infrastructure is also a thing to marvel at. The Incus had made deep building foundations at the spot and also an extensive drainage system that is made of crushed rock. You will just wonder after seeing it if you visit the place. These systems made by the Incus usually helped them to withstand the weather of the wet seasons.
5. Machu Picchu Taller Than Huayna Picchu:
